HIV/AIDS

Many rural development programmes funded by Misereor are confronted with HIV/AIDS in their daily work. HIV/AIDS endangers the achievement of project goals and forces us to question the appropriateness of project concepts.

The HIV/AIDS mainstreaming approach enables development agencies at all levels to view project environments through an ‘HIV/AIDS lens’ and to take appropriate action. It is not simply a matter of adding HIV/AIDS components to the project, but of searching for appropriate and effective contributions while focusing on the project’s comparative advantages and professional competence.

The Practitioner’s Guide produced by Misereor in collaboration with three south African partner programmes wants to assist projects and development agencies in their search for meaningful responses to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, it provides comprehensive information on HIV/AIDS mainstreaming and shows how to translate the mainstreaming approach into practice.
