In 1996, Misereor has set up the first regional office in Africa in Zimbabwe in co-operation with the Archdiocese of Harare: Misereor Southern Africa Consultancy Service (MSACS) in order to monitor political and socioeconomic developments and provide more direct and effective support to partner organisations in the region of Southern Africa (apart from Zimbabwe South Africa and Zambia).

Main partner organisations of Misereor in Zimbabwe are the Catholic Development Commissions (CADEC) of the dioceses. Their prime areas of work are:

  • Sustainable agriculture and water
  • HIV/AIDS, orphan care
  • Income generating programmes
  • Gender and Development
  • Development and civic education
  • Social teaching of the Catholic Church

In addition, Misereor co-operates with a broad range of Christian organisations, NGOs and regional networks covering similar issues and programmes like Human Rights, Justice and Peace, Advocacy and Lobbying.
